I figured there was a professional reason behind the decision

and I am guessing it was unexpected given that she was fired and re-hired towards the end of Season 2. A part of me thought a side story in script was going to be about Cable rebuilding her trust with Bull (maybe even this "new" Bull) that she lost when he fired her. Then again, the series hasn't really touched (too much) on Bull's relationship with each of the characters prior to the pilot episode. So maybe the script was going to go down the path where she regained it as if nothing happened.
